The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign was rolled out two years ago and now it is time to check how our cities are kept clean. The Indian government has introduced a survey to analyze what people think about their own cities and it will improve the cleanliness of the city based on what people think about it. The Ministry of Urban Development has launched its “Swachh Survekshan 2017 for Swachta Ranking” survey, which will rank Indian cities depending on their cleanliness and foster the spirit of keeping the environment clean.

Last year, Mysore, Chandigarh and Tiruchirapalli were voted as the top three cleanest cities in India. This year, citizens are invited to participate in the survey published on the ministry’s website, which has been promoted on all social media. The survey is easy and it takes up just 4 minutes on an average. There are basic questions about name, gender, city and city pin code which need to be filled. Other questions are about public toilets, sanitary bins and general cleanliness in the area. The form however lacks an open ended question for any comment that a citizen wants to make.

Citizen’s voice has been given 30% weightage in the survey, while the other data will be collected from municipal bodies, direct assessment and individual observation.
