Electronic notice boards at major traffic intersections in Delhi, that generally display road safety tips, will now show information on air quality and health advisories as well. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India’s supreme pollution monitoring agency, has associated with Delhi Police to exhibit hourly information on Air Quality Index at 50 intersections in the initial phase. The CPCB authority has planned to extend this project to all metro stations and city hospitals in the next phase.

Some of the locations covered in the first phase include Mathura Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Sunder Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Aurobindo Marg, and Sarita Vihar, among others.
Effective information dissemination about air quality is one of the vital components of the Graded Response Action Plan that is being implemented by Supreme Court-directed Environment Pollution Prevention & Control Authority. Although the nation’s capital had planned to implement the project earlier, finally it took shape due to the urgent recommendation from the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, CPCB has issued a direction to state pollution boards of Delhi to take rapid action against waste burning and accomplish pollution control measures. A CPCB task force has also recommended closing coal factories in Delhi to control air pollution.
