Leading broadcaster Sony BBC Earth, in partnership with Bollywood star and social activist Bhumi Pednekar, has launched a ‘Young Earth Champions’, a nation-wide contest to bring together all the climate-conscious minds under one roof.

With the pandemic bringing in high uncertainty in everyone’s life, people and especially the younger generation are seriously concerned about global issues such as climate protection and nature conservation. Today, everyone comprehends the dire need to work for a better world where our environment stays protected.

Keeping this need in mind, Sony BBC Earth along with Bhumi Pednekar has initiated this Young Earth Champions contest, whose theme is “Innovative ideas for sustainable communities”. This contest not only recognizes innovative ideas made in India, but also inspires young minds to think about a more sustainable future and a greener world at an early age.

Registrations are now open for students from 5th and 9th standard kids studying in India, who can send in entries for the most innovative ideas related to the main theme such as clean water & sanitation, affordable clean energy, waste management and clean air and climate action. Participants need to fill in the necessary information and upload their entry on the official website of Sony BBC Earth.

The submission needs to have:
• Big Idea – synopsis (150 words)
• Domain areas of focus (100 words)
• Scientific principles behind the big idea (300 words)
• Execution plan (300 words)
• Description of how the idea would change your community in the future (150 words)

An expert panel including Bhumi Pednekar will judge all the green initiatives and select one ‘Young Earth Champion’ who will be featured on Sony BBC Earth and wins a hamper worth INR50,000. In addition, the top 10 young earth champions will get an opportunity to virtually connect with Bhumi Pednekar and witness a panel discussion towards a greener world. The top 50 winners will get a certificate of excellence from Sony BBC Earth.
