Swiss Re Foundation, in association with Bookbridge, and Ashoka, a leading NGO, has launched the Shine Program to encourage next generation social innovators to showcase and work on their product with professional help. Shine Program combines social innovations with entrepreneurial vision to provide an exciting opportunity for all early stage entrepreneurs working in the field of climate risk management, smart agriculture, access to healthcare, or renewable energy.

The Shine Program consists of a four-month long training and mentorship activity, in which social innovators can take professional help to spruce up their product and make it ready for the market. This training has brought together some of their finest professionals who will help the innovators to develop a financially feasible and scalable business plan that can have tangible social impact. After which they will face a ‘Shark Tank’ that will decide whether the final project receives the final grant of INR15 million.

Pure Paani was the winner of the first edition of Swiss Re Foundation’s Shine Program. This is a Bangalore-based business whose aim is to make drinking water available everywhere by providing affordable filtration and water treatment methods to the public. Aspiring or early-stage entrepreneurs are selected based on their holistic understanding of the social challenge and innovative approach to the solution, among other parameters. The focus is particularly on social innovations in the fields of climate risk management, smart agriculture, healthcare and renewable energy.

Application forms can be found on the company website and the completed applications by all enthusiastic next generation innovators should be sent to shine_program@swissre.com by 31 August.
