The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) along with various energy conservation organizations is celebrating World Bio Fuel Day on 10 August 2017 across 100 districts in India. The World Bio-Fuel Day is observed on 10th August every year in a bid to create awareness about non fossil-fuels such as biodiesel, ethanol, biogas, etc. On this day in 1893, Sir Rudolph Diesel, the diesel engine inventor, for the first time successfully ran mechanical engine with peanut oil.

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has been observing the World Bio fuel Day since 2015 by launching bio-diesel blending programs in various cities of India and organising conferences to discuss business opportunities.

Earlier in July 2017, the “Bioenergy Urja Utsav” was held in Pune in continuation with various initiatives undertaken by the Government of India in the bioenergy sector. This event was aimed at highlighting the various initiatives being carried out in the bioenergy sector for developing an inclusive national policy and sustainable mainstreaming of such technologies. This event was also aimed at creating awareness amongst the masses about biofuels and their various economical and environmental benefits. Individuals concerned about India’s energy independence are requested to participate in the day’s activities.
