The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has invited entries to the 2022 FLCTD Innovation Challenge to identify promising innovative solutions in electrical energy storage systems.

The 2022 FLCTD Innovation Challenge is a part of the Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment (FLCTD), which is a project of UNIDO implemented in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The FLCTD Project was launched in 2016 with an objective to identify innovative solutions in energy efficiency and low carbon technology that address the existing technology gaps in India.

FLCTD has identified six priority technology verticals for its FLCTD Innovation Challenge: Waste Heat Recovery, Space Conditioning, Pumps, Pumping Systems and Motors, Industrial IoT, Industrial Resource Efficiency and Electrical Energy Storage.

This year, innovators are invited to submit their innovations in electrical energy storage systems that need to be deployed in various stationary and mobility-related end-applications to reduce the usage of fossil fuels. The following areas are of prime focus:

  • Electrochemical Batteries: Innovations that improve the energy storage capacity of rechargeable batteries
  • Super Capacitors systems: Innovations that demonstrate higher levels of energy storage capacity, quick charge/discharge cycles in capacitors
  • Hybrid energy storage systems by combining super/ultra-capacitor and electrochemical battery systems
  • Innovations in design and construction of critical components for EES systems including power conversion systems

Research institutions, corporate companies, SMEs and startup innovators can all participate in this 2022 FLCTD Innovation Challenge. The winning entry will get a grant up to $50,000 and Business Acceleration and Mentoring support from industry experts.
